Social Responsibility  Seniors’ Finance Sponsors the Katlehong Society for the Care of the Aged

Seniors’ Finance are delighted to announce their sponsorship of the Katlehong Society for the Care of the Aged.

We think that it is important to give something back to society. So, when we can, we sponsor an organisation or an event that is related to our target market. In 2006, we decided to sponsor the Katlehong Society for the Care of the Aged, who desperately needed funds in order to improve the living conditions of the residents of their old age home.

The Katlehong Society for the Care of the Aged is a non-profit organisation, which has been in existence since 1982. It is based on the East Rand of Gauteng, and serves the community of Katlehong, Tokoza and Vosloorus. The society is involved in three main programmes:

The old age home, which also provides a frail care centre and clinic for the aged

Home-based care services for those affected and infected with HIV/AIDS

Service centres which provide luncheon clubs and extra mural activities to aged people in the
    area

When we visited the old age home, we were struck by the high levels of care and compassion exuded by the support staff, but also the very trying circumstances in which they operate. For example, the old age home has a kitchen and dining area. However, the dining area was short of tables and chairs that their aged and frail residents would ordinarily use when eating their meals, and some of the stoves in the kitchen were not working properly.

As a result, Seniors' Finance had no hesitation in making a R10 000 donation to the Katlehong Society for the Care of the Aged, intended to assist in improving the facilities in the dining and kitchen areas. "It's a small gesture", said Nic Craig, former Managing Director of Seniors' Finance, "but at least the occupants will now be able to have their meals in more comfortable surroundings, which most of us take for granted".
